Idea Conference 2026: The Best Vendors Understand the People Behind the Work

Industry conferences are a slightly strange place to be a vendor. Let alone a music catalog.

You are surrounded by people who do the actual work every day. They are running control rooms, building game presentations, creating content, managing technology and fixing problems most fans will never know existed. Meanwhile, you're standing nearby with a booth and a logo, trying not to turn every conversation into a pitch.

The easy mistake is thinking your job is to talk.

The better opportunity is to listen.

That showed up bigtime at the Idea Conference 2026 in Cincinnati.

The people in those rooms are unusually honest about their work. They talk about what landed, what failed, what fans hated, what leadership applauded and what nearly broke five minutes before the doors opened. For a vendor, that perspective is priceless. Not because it gives you better material for a sales email. It helps you understand what the industry actually needs instead of guessing from the outside.

The most impressive part of IDEA is how openly everyone shares. MLB teams give ideas to NHL teams. NFL teams pull inspiration from WNBA teams. Colleges learn from professional organizations, and major franchises learn from people operating with a fraction of their resources.

There is very little pretending that one organization has everything figured out.

Someone shares a great idea. Someone else explains how they would adapt it. A third person tells the room exactly how their version went off the rails. That kind of honesty is rare. In most industries, the playbook is guarded. Here, people regularly hand pieces of it to one another because they want the entire craft to improve.

DC The Brain Supreme, better known as the guy behind “Whoomp! (There It Is),” opened the conference with a talk that touched on copyright and the confusing realities of navigating it. That was obviously relevant to the APM Music world, but it also fit the broader theme. People were sharing hard-earned knowledge so others could make better decisions.

Then everything ended with karaoke.

We host the party, which means several days of conversations about AV, game presentation and professional production standards eventually lead to those same professionals stepping onstage and immediately eating the microphone. Apparently, knowing how audio works and knowing where to hold a karaoke mic are unrelated skills.

No one sang Heavy Action (aka Monday Night Football theme) or any other APM tracks, but it is still music creating happiness and bringing people together. That's hard not to enjoy.

The best vendors do not just study an industry from the outside.

They earn enough trust to listen to the people living inside it.
