APM Sports: The Top Ten NFL Films Music Library Tracks

Sarah Scarlata

NFL Films Music Library

As Hank Williams Jr. was known to say, “are you ready for some football?” Opening day for the NFL is fast approaching on September 5, and we could not be more excited to greet the new season!

APM’s legendary music catalog features one of the most recognized football anthems of all-time: “Heavy Action,” which was the Monday Night Football theme for decades. Our musical DNA is closely linked with the NFL, so it’s no surprise that we are the premiere music library for twenty eight out of the thirty-two teams in the NFL.

We proudly represent The NFL Films Music Library for synch which is the quintessential sports music catalog in which all others are measured. Iconic composers like Sam Spence and David Robidoux wrote the playbook for how sports music should sound. This catalog has tracked the historic chronology of the NFL and continues this tradition with big and exciting brass licks, pounding marching drumlines, trending hard-hitting styles, and epic cinematic scores. Here are my top ten:

10.  “T.D.” – Nothing gets us more revved up for a football game than an energized marching band! This orchestral marching band cue with a signature opening brass melody features a drumline feature breakdown which screams team spirit.

9. “Brotherhood” – Brotherhood is a classic David Robidoux orchestral powerhouse featuring determined orchestral hooks, dynamic tension interludes, and a massive sense of teamwork.

8. “It Starts Now” – There is nothing more thrilling than watching the home team run out onto the field. This Robidoux track is the perfect anthem to show how much we love the game!

7. “Uncontainable” – The unbridled Rock riffs in Uncontainable mirror the intensity of NFL action. This beast of a track doesn’t quit and neither does the defensive line.

6. “Glory and Honor” – This triumphant brass fanfare-fueled track is reminiscent of orchestral Americana greats like Aaron Copeland. Football is an all-American sport, and we are proud to celebrate its history.

We’re down to the top five! The second half of this list belongs to the one and only Sam Spence.

5. “The Edge” – Sam Spence was highly effective at highlighting modern styles throughout his career. “The Edge” is a notable example of combining his signature orchestral sound with modern synths of the 1980s.

4. “Classical Jazz” – This genre melding 1970s classic merges the dramatic melody of Edvard Grieg’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor” with Disco beats, blending popular sounds of the era. With a frantic Flight of the Bumblebee-styled string intro, huge brass exclamations, irreverent Jazz piano melodies, and driving disco grooves, this track is a winner!

3. “Steve’s March” – As with any Spence march, “Steve’s March” is overflowing with excitement. The marching snare drumbeat outlined by alternating melodic timpani quarter notes and earworm orchestral melodies is enough to rouse any fan out of their seat.

2. “The Equalizer” – When the game is on the line, you bring in “The Equalizer.” It’s one of the most recognizable Spence tracks and is one of the defining anthems of the NFL.

1. “Roundup” – The track blends everything we love about football: The drama, intensity, excitement of competition, new frontiers, and the thrill of the hunt. This timeless soundtrack can score football action in any era.
