How to License Music with APM Sports

So, you're wondering how to license music for your sports content? If you’re reading this, you’re probably on the hunt for some amazing tracks to amp up your highlight reels or pre-game videos. Finding the perfect track can be a challenge, and that can be compounded by seemingly complex copyright laws regarding what you can and cannot use. But don’t worry! When Do You Need a Sync License? 

First things first: when do you actually need a sync license? Anytime you pair music with video. This “synchronization” of sound & picture is what creates the need for proper licensing. It’s different from just playing music over a PA system, which falls under public performance rules and doesn’t require a sync license, for example. So, if you’re creating any multimedia content that includes music, make sure you get that sync license! 

Now that you know when you need a license, let’s break down this info needed to properly assess the scope of your license: 

1. Identify Your Distribution Channels: Where will you share your content? Whether it’s social media, paid ads, broadcasts, or internal presentations, knowing your distribution method is key.

   
   

2. Choose the Right Type of License:  

APM offers two types of licenses: Needledrop and Term. Needledrop licenses allow you to use one or multiple songs in a single piece of content or production on a per-song basis – these work best for one-time projects. Term licenses let your company use any song from our music library over a set period. Sports clients often find term licenses more cost-effective, as they continuously produce and deliver content to eager fans. 

All music licenses in the APM music library come with a full indemnification clause. This means you, as a licensee of our music, have protection against liability if any infringement claims arise.
