Samuel Lloyd Spence was an American composer, best known for creating the soundtracks for NFL Films. He used to teach music at USC before moving to Munich, where he got hired in 1966 to score the mini-documentaries that showcased NFL highlights and key players to fans during the early days of network TV. His music, paired with John Facenda’s deep, iconic voice, created a powerful combination that really helped shape how fans experienced football. You could even say he played a big part in making football America’s number one sport. His work is also featured in EA Sports' Madden NFL video games.

Sam Spence created the soundtrack of the NFL. These 10 beloved themes defined the historic chronology of football and are the most recognizable sports anthems of all-time. With big and exciting brass licks, pounding marching drumlines, and epic cinematic scores, look no further for the quintessential scores in which all others are measured.
