How to Use APM Music
to Avoid Content Muting on TikTok
If you plan to promote your brand on TikTok you’ll need music that helps you stand out—
That’s where APM comes in. Our vast music and sound effects library are fully cleared for social use, so you can confidently add compelling tracks to your videos without worrying about takedowns or cease-and-desist notices.
But there are still platform-specific rules to follow. When using APM music on any of these platforms, be sure to follow these best practices to avoid unexpected issues:
60-Second Music Limit
-
Tik Tok is primarily designed for short-form content, and to enforce this format, the platform automatically mutes any video that contains more than 60 total seconds of music—regardless of the music licensing status.
-
This applies even if your music is legally cleared through APM. If your video includes one second over the limit, the platform will mute it. Unfortunately, APM and other music providers have no way to override or prevent this mute policy, as it is enforced directly by content detection systems.
What To Do If Your Video Is Muted
If your video is muted for exceeding the 60-second music limit, we recommend the following:
-
Delete the video.
-
Edit the content to either:
-
Shorten the overall video to 60 seconds or less, or
-
Trim or fade the music track to 60 seconds or less in total duration.
-
Re-upload the revised version of your video.
-
Pro tip: Use fade-outs or hard stops to make the music edit feel intentional and clean.
Music Duration vs. Copyright Claims
-
The 60-second music rule is separate from copyright enforcement.
-
If you receive a copyright claim on your video that uses licensed APM music, please contact us at contentid@apmmusic.com with the video URL.
-
If your usage falls within your license agreement, we will ensure the claim is lifted as quickly as possible.
Final Tips for Posting with APM Music on TikTok
-
Use music creatively but always check the duration before publishing.
-
Watch out for looped sections— these platforms may count those toward the 60-second limit.
-
Stay informed: policies can change, so refer to the latest platform updates or reach out with questions.
